Q2 Technologies has brought to market the Enviro-Solve™ ProM™ series; an innovative non-amine/non-aldehyde mercaptans scavenger for crude oil applications. Q2 Technologies and its former partner Quaker Chemical developed the triazine technology that is used world-wide today. A need was identified to reduce fouling created by amine based scavengers in refineries, production streams and crude oil terminals.

Reaction Overview:

R(ProM™) + Mercaptans (RSH)                           R’SO4-2 + H2O

  • ProM™ will react with the H2S molecules and turns them into aqueous non-toxic sulphate salt.
  • The heavier sulphate salt molecule will drop into produced water stream.
  • Reaction is fast and irreversible.

ProM™ reaction time may take from 24-72 hours depending on mercaptan species and viscosity of the hydrocarbon. The viscosity of the hydrocarbon will have a direct impact on how ProM™ separates.

  • ProM™ will not reaction with double bonded sulfur compounds.
  • Testing on individual hydrocarbon streams is necessary to determine a performance estimation.

ProM™ Lab Data:

An experiment was designed using Trace Sulphur Analysis to determine the performance of ProM™ on different mercaptans from condensate sample from Alberta, CA. A baseline was obtained and then ProM™ was added to the Test Condensate. The ProM™ was injected into the Test Condensate sample and then agitated by hand for a period of five minutes. The Trace Sulphur Analysis was then performed on the sample after 24 hours had elapsed. The samples was then agitated for 2 minutes and allowed to sit for another 24 hours until 48 hours total test time had elapsed. The Trace Sulphur analysis was then repeated. The results are as follows:
